Anyone who is not highly interested in the abundance of products in the beauty industry, it can be difficult to understand how your skin functions. In the mix of it all, trying to find solutions to correct problems can be that much more frustrating. To put your mind at ease, I will break down the 4 different skin types and skin tones you need to understand.
The four different skin types
Oily Skin
- greasy appearance
- prone to acne breakouts
- result of excess sebum production
Tips: If you fall under that oily skin category, moisturize regularly to keep your skin hydrated and prevent it from overproducing sebum.
Drinking an appropriate amount of water will keep your skin moist preventing your skin from producing excess oil. Lastly, wash your face twice a day.
Dry Skin
- determined by flaky and rough texture
- can at times feel tight and cause irritation
Tips: If you fall under the dry skin category, moisturize your skin regularly to keep it soft and hydrated. Limit your time in the shower and use a humidifier to retain your skin’s natural moisture. Lastly, use sunscreen daily to prevent your skin from getting dehydrated.
Combination Skin
- mix of oily skin and dry skin
- the T-zone is oily and the cheeks are dry
Tips: If you fall under the combination skin category, use gentle cleansers that are not harsh and won’t clog your pores. Gently exfoliate once every two weeks. Lastly, use oil-free beauty products.
Sensitive Skin
- if your skin flushes
- adversely reacts to new products
Tips: If you fall under the sensitive skin category, keep your skincare routine to a minimum. Use products suitable for sensitive skin and refrain from introducing new products too frequently.
The four types of skin tones
- It is common for combination skin types to have an olive skin tone.
- Pale skin tones commonly have dry skin.
- A darker skin complexion tone has oily skin types.
- A yellow skin complexion is likely to have sensitive skin.
Some of us are fortunate enough to be born with perfect skin, many of us do not fall into that category.
If you are thinking aging in the skin is the cycle of life, it will happen sooner or later. You are correct but prevention early on is more important than correction when the problem arises. There are ways to improve what has already been done and how you can continue to improve your skincare.
Depending on your skin type, adapt your skincare routine accordingly with your skin condition and complexion.
