When we are thinking about what to wear on a day to day basis, we build our attire around basic clothing pieces in our wardrobe. Naturally, we go for our favorite pair of jeans, best fitted jacket, or most worn pair of shoes.

This is because we know what fits us bests. When we have a foundation, we can slowly add supporting pieces to build the complete look. If you are searching through your closet and you are struggling to find essential wardrobe pieces, let me tell you what you might be missing.

White Shirt

Take a look at your closet to get a visual of everything you may have. If you do not have at least one collared white button up shirt, you must stop what you are doing and purchase one immediately. Not having a white shirt is like not having underwear, there is no way you can get by.

  • Dress it up: button up the shirt from top to bottom, add a tie around the collar, and tuck in the ends of the shirt into dress pants.

A lot of the times, men get too comfortable wearing white, black, and grey. Light blue is subtle yet a great way to brighten up the look in a casual setting.

  • Dress it up: button up the shirt from top to bottom, add a tie around the collar, and tuck in the ends of the shirt into dress pants.
  • Dress it down: unbutton 1 or 2 buttons from the top, roll up the sleeves, and wear it with denim or chinos.

Navy Jacket

In terms of outerwear, a navy colored jacket is a must have. It is paired nicely with standard colors in your wardrobe such as white, blue, beige, brown, and even green.

  • For a classic look: pair jacket with white or light blue
